WDHN in Dothan AL is seeking an
experienced journalist to lead our team and serve as the next News
Director.   We are looking for a hands on “teacher” who
understands how to showcase the news events through graphics, video, writing
and sound.  The successful candidate must be well organized and able
to clearly communicate a vision to be successful on all platforms.  

 

Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:  

 

• Manages all aspects of the News Department, including Production.

• Develops news coverage strategy for the station and its website.

• Establishes long-range objectives and specifies the strategies and actions to achieve them.

• Critiques newscasts daily to correct errors, improves coverage, and provides mentoring feedback to news
staff.

• Ensures achievement of viewer rating goals and responds to coverage questions in a timely manner.

• Determines programming and evaluation of equipment needs to produce quality programming.

• Works closely with General Manager and Department Managers to ensure stations objectives are being met.

• Works closely with corporate and sister stations to maximize news coverage/content offerings available.

• Manages departmental budgets and monthly expenses.

• Plans and manages staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the News Department.

• Identifies developmental needs and provides the mentoring needed to develop and grow employees.

• Assigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being met.

• Directs, coaches, and motivates subordinates.

• Ensures station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements & Skills: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism, or equivalent combination of education and work
experience

• Minimum five years' experience in news programming production, with two years' experience in a
leadership role. 

• Fluency in English with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Demonstrates strong customer service skills and superior interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Listens to fully understand employee needs and communicates with a team to shape a solution.

• Available to work extended hours if needed.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 

The News Director must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write
letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The News
Director must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.

The Production Assistant is responsible for various television production duties required to record scenes for live and recorded broadcasts.

  • Composes and frames camera shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors

  • Adjusts positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure and lighting as requested by the director

  • Operates studio cameras during live broadcasts

The Director of Contemporary Worship is a spiritual and organizational leader who oversees the worship and music ministry of the contemporary worship service at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Enterprise, Alabama. Oversight of the worship ministry includes but is not limited to leading our community worship; implementation of the church’s vision, mission, and strategy in the area of worship; leading St. Luke’s worship band, Ten Cities; ensuring each worship service is led in such a way that the congregation has an opportunity for an authentic encounter with God’s presence. A successful candidate will demonstrate clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing relationship with God. They will have experience in leading worship in a contemporary setting and a calling to serve in this type of leadership position.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Primarily responsible for various production processes, both manual (i.e. using a knife to cut and remove poultry parts) and automated, associated with disassembly of poultry into customer and/or company specifications.
